Leaving your beloved pets when you travel is never easy. Your mind races: Will they be happy? Will the house be okay? Will their routine be maintained? At CatsDogsHarmony, my mission is simple: to maintain the harmony in your pet home by taking the best possible care of your cats and/or dog families.

I build relationships that yield genuine trust and affection from the creatures in my care.

A big part of that harmony comes from choosing the right pet sitter. You might wonder, beyond just loving animals, what truly sets a pet sitter apart? Let me share a little about what I bring to every sit, and what I believe pet parents should always look for.

More Than Just a Sitter: A Trusted Home Manager

When you invite someone into your home to care for your pets, you're also entrusting them with your most personal space. So, who's watching your home with the same care you would? As a mature lady of 40+ and a homeowner myself, I understand the nuances of domestic responsibility. I’m not just about the pets; I’m mindful of maintaining your home.

That means knowing not to pour grease down the drain, how to properly clean a cast iron skillet, caring for a glass-top stove, and covering food in the microwave to prevent messes. I treat your home with the same respect and awareness I give my own. You won't find an overflowing trash can when you return – I'm meticulous about leaving your space better than I found it.

Decades of Pet-Savvy Experience: Speaking "Pet" Fluently

Anyone can give a treat, but what about a sitter who truly 'speaks dog' (or cat)? With two decades of personal pet ownership, I've learned to be deeply observant of animal needs through their subtle body language and sounds. By responding to these cues promptly, I build relationships that yield genuine trust and affection from the creatures in my care.

I pride myself on being gentle in handling, yet firm and clear with commands—whether it’s a leash correction without being harmful, or getting a barking frenzy under order. I understand the etiquette of responsible pet care, like crossing the street out of courtesy and caution when another dog walker approaches. My easy-going personality also helps me get along well with neighbors, ensuring your community interactions remain positive.

Building Bonds, Easing Anxieties

For me, pet sitting isn't just a job; it's a genuine connection. I enjoy talking with the animals as if they are people, finding it soothes them and helps build a strong bond. I don't mind getting on the floor and being silly, engaging them with toys or just enjoying their company. My passion is real, and my effort is genuine – because to me, the real client is always the dog or cat in my care. My primary goal is to ease their anxiety and make them feel happy and content while their family is away.

Peace of Mind: Responsible Living, Transparent Communication

Do you worry about the 'little things,' like finding your home just as you left it? I am a non-smoker and non-drinker. This means you can rest assured your home won't smell of any kind of smoke, and your liquor cabinet will be safe. I am inherently tidy and clean, taking great care to respect your space.

Communication is key when you’re away. I am very communicative, sending multiple photos and video summaries of my time with your animals. My attentiveness extends to my surroundings – keeping a watchful eye on your pets, your house, and the neighborhood. You can depend on me to communicate promptly if any problem or change arises regarding your pet's care or your home.

Beyond the Sit: A Resource for Pet Parents

What truly makes a pet sitter a long-term partner for your family's needs? How about one who's invested in helping you beyond just their visits? One of my favorite things to do that is pet-related involves a camera and hours of editing (which I LOVE).

I create pet-related content that's both entertaining and a helpful resource for local pet parents. I share insights on the best and worst dog parks in town, highlight top pet-friendly places to rent and live, and the best place to wash your dog that's not at home, and plan to introduce you to local pet professionals to help you find special goods and services for your furry friends. My goal is to build a community where every pet family thrives.

Choosing Your Ideal Sitter: My Advice

So, when you're looking for someone to trust with your furry family and your home, consider these points:

  • Look beyond just "liking animals." Seek someone with demonstrated, long-term pet care experience and an intuitive understanding of animal behavior.

  • Prioritize home awareness. A sitter who understands domestic responsibilities will leave your home as you'd expect – or better.

  • Value clear communication. Regular updates, photos, and quick problem-solving communication are invaluable.

  • Consider lifestyle choices. A sitter's habits can impact your home and pet care directly.

  • Check their reputation. A good online and community reputation speaks volumes about reliability and professionalism.

  • Do your due diligence. Take the time to check their social media presence, read their online reviews (and any reported complaints), and always ask for references. A trustworthy sitter will be happy to provide these.

  • Take an extra look when hiring an independent individual who may not be part of a larger, pre-vetted company (or have their own registered LLC). Inquire if they have undergone a professional background check or are willing to provide the necessary information for you to arrange one. A trustworthy and transparent sitter will be happy to facilitate these requests, ensuring your peace of mind.

I am happy to say that most, if not all, of the above-mentioned stellar qualities apply to me, making me an ideal candidate for a family's homesitting and pet care needs.

Why else might you want to hire me? I believe in offering reasonable rates for a premium, dependable service. My aim is always to provide complete peace of mind, knowing your home and beloved pets are in capable, caring, and trustworthy hands.

I hope this article has offered valuable insights as you consider the ideal caretaker for your cats and dogs during your next travel plans. Ensuring your pets' happiness and your peace of mind is what true harmony in pet care is all about.
